Please join us for a rare Denver storytelling and poetry reading by our own Ken Arkind and Charly Fasano at Mutiny Information Cafe (2 S. Broadway Denver) on December 28 at 7 pm.

Ken and Charly have been collaborating and sharing the stage for years. Their most notable team-up is a book entitled “Denver” published by Fast Geek Press. It is a love poem to Old Denver by Arkind and illustrated by the scratchy block prints of Fasano.

Ken Arkind is an American poet, author, performer and educator originating from Steamboat Springs in Colorado. Arkind is highly celebrated, holding the 2006 title of the American National Poetry Slam Champion and the 2010 title of Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam Champion amongst other awards. As well as performing his work throughout the world, Arkind has also delivered tremendous TedX talks and worked in initiatives such as Denver Minor Disturbance and Action Education NZ. Arkind now resides in Auckland and is a recent graduate from the Manukau Institute of Technology’s Creative Arts Programme.

Charly “the city mouse” Fasano is a poet, filmmaker, painter and block printer from Denver, Colorado. He has released two spoken word records accompanied by the music of Memphis’ Lucero. His short animated films have appeared at the No Budget Film Festival, Blackbird Film Festival and The Lowlands Film Festival. His short animated film Teddy’s Bowling Alley was awarded a Jury Prize at the Machinima Expo 7 Film Fest in 2014. Books of his poems have been published by Sunnyoutside Press (Buffalo NY) and Spartan Press (Kansas City). His drawings and poems have appeared in Suspect Press Magazine, Yellow Rake Magazine and Birdy Magazine. He also illustrated a book length poem by Ken Arkind called “Denver” with a series of block prints. Named to the Westword Magazine’s 100 Creatives 4.0 list, his drawings and paintings have also featured in group exhibitions at Bitfactory Gallery and Cabal Gallery in Denver.
